چکیده

As IP technologies providing both tremendous capacity and the ability to establish dynamic secure associations between endpoints emerge, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are going through dramatic growth. The number of endpoints per VPN is growing and the communication pattern between endpoints is becoming increasingly hard to forecast. Consequently , users are demanding dependable, dynamic con-nectivity between endpoints, with the network expected to accommodate any traac matrix, as long as the traac to the endpoints does not overwhelm the rates of the respective ingress and egress links. We propose a new service interface , termed a hose, to provide the appropriate performance abstraction. A hose is characterized by the aggregate traac to and from one endpoint in the VPN to the set of other endpoints in the VPN, and by an associated performance guarantee. Hoses provide important advantages to a VPN customer: (i) exibility to send traac to a set of endpoints without having to specify the detailed traac matrix, and (ii) reduction in the size of access links through multiplexing gains obtained from the natural aggregation of the ows between endpoints. As compared with the conventional point to point (or customer-pipe) model for managing QoS, hoses provide reduction in the state information a customer must maintain. On the other hand, hoses would appear to increase the complexity of the already diicult problem of resource management to support QoS. To manage network resources in the face of this increased uncertainty, we consider both conventional statistical multiplexing techniques, and a new resizing technique based on online measurements. To study these performance issues, we run trace driven simulations, using traac derived from AT&T's voice network , and from a large corporate data network. From the customer's perspective, we nd that aggregation of traac at the hose level provides signiicant multiplexing gains. From the provider's perspective, we nd that the statistical multi-plexing and resizing techniques deal eeectively with uncertainties about the traac, providing signiicant gains over the conventional alternative of a mesh of statically sized customer-pipes between endpoints. 1 Introduction Virtual Private Network services have been ooered in various forms over an extended period of time and have recently received considerable attention within the IP, frame-relay, MPLS, and ATM networking communities 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. VPNs are likely to be used by customers as a replacement for networks constructed using private lines and should therefore , at the very least, provide a comparable …

Customer Lifetime Value Models: A literature Survey

Abstract Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) is known as an important concept in marketing and management of organizations to increase the captured profitability. Total value that a customer produces during his/her lifetime is named customer lifetime value. The generated value can be calculated through different methods. Each method considers different parameters. Due to the industry, firm, business...

A Petri net based simulation to study the impact of customer response to stock-out on supply chain performance

Based on a Petri-net based simulation model, we investigate the effect of different customer response to stock-out on both the stock-out supply chain and the competing supply chain. Five types of customer stock-out responses are incorporated in the model to quantitatively assess the correlation between customer response and supply chain performance including bullwhip effect (BWE), on-hand inven...

The Fallacy of the Net Promoter Score: Customer Loyalty Predictive Model

The Net Promoter Score (NPS) is still a popular customer loyalty measurement despite recent studies arguing that customer loyalty is multidimensional. Therefore, firms require new data-driven methods that combine behavioral and attitudinal data sources. This paper provides a framework that holistically assesses and predicts customer loyalty using attitudinal and behavioral data sources. We buil...

A Conceptual Framework for Understanding and Measuring Perceived Service Quality in Net-based Customer Support Systems

The aim of this research is to develop a scale to measure perceived service quality in net-based customer support systems. The primary question addressed by this research is: What is a valid and reliable measure that can be used for perceived service quality in net-based customer support systems? In order to answer the research question, a two-phase study is designed to 1) determine the attribu...

Assessing Customer Value of Net-Enabled Firms: Test of Panel Data

This research tests the creation and sustainability of customer value by net enabled enterprises employing customer centric IT systems. Internet based advanced information technologies have moved IT systems beyond the realm of production and operational processes into more customer interfacing functions and these systems have very different dynamics. While empirical research in IS has tested th...

On the Use of Customer Lifetime Value As a Limit on Acquisition Spending

The concept of the lifetime value of a customer is well established in the theory and practice of database marketing. The lifetime value of a customer, defined to be the expected present value of the net cash flows from the firm’s relationship with the customer over his or her lifetime, is often used as an upper limit on spending to acquire the customer. If the expected cash flows from the rela...
